Kingsmouth
From The Secret World Wiki
Kingsmouth is the name of a fictional town that is said to reside in Maine, a state in the New England region of the United States of America. The town was first revealed to The Secret World community during The Dark Places event, where an official website was discovered for the town.
The name of the town, as well as the "Innsmouth Academy", implies that it is heavily based on the also fictional town of Innsmouth, a town used in a couple of works by H.P. Lovecraft. Martin Bruusgaard has stated that there will also be references to other famous writers such as Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King. (Source)

[edit] Background
Kingsmouth is a fictional harbor town that is located on Solomon Island, an, also fictional, island on the northeast part of Maine. The population of the town was 1,547 in the year 2000. The current town was founded in 1667 by an English pilgrim named Solomon Priest along with Isaac Fletcher, Gottfried von Ickstatt and John Langmore. The town motto is featured in an emblem on the official website and reads: "Lux Omnia Vincit", which roughly translates from Latin to mean "Light Conquers All." Also on the website, there is a verse Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost who wrote it in New Hampshire, a state in the New England region, in 1923.
Some citizens believe the town was founded by a "secret order" that originated from Europe. It is likely that this means it was founded by the Illuminati when they were exiled from Europe by the Templars. In 1712, the town suffered a major fire that threatened to destroy most of the buildings on the island. However, with the help of financial aid from wealthy businessmen, the townspeople were able to rebuild. The major attraction of the town of Kingsmouth seems to be tourism. The town boasts a long history that involves Indians, Vikings, and a rich mining history. The official website gives a list of activities to do while in Kingsmouth including taking a tour of the island from the local airport, relaxing at Red Oak Beach, and visiting the Franklin Foundation Mining Museum.
[edit] Notable Residents
- Helen Bannerman - Helen is the sheriff of the town. She has a twitter account that she updates every so often.
- Andy Gardener - The deputy of Kingsmouth. Andy also has a twitter account that he uses to communicate with Helen, despite the fact that he carries a two-way radio that he could use.
- Danny Dufresne - Danny appears to be a regular citizen of the town of Kingsmouth. He seems to enjoy technological toys and especially loves playing video games, including his current favorite, Left 4 Dead. Similar to other members of the town, he also has a twitter account.
- Tyler Freeborn - Mr. Freeborn has lived on Solomon Island since he was born. He lives about "ten minutes out of Kingsmouth." He is a descendant of the Wabanaki tribe. His grandfather, Joseph, told him about the horrors and oddities of the island while he was growing up. He believes the town is in danger and recently has tried to warn the locals about it, but the townspeople just believe him to be insane. Tyler started a blog named Monsters of Maine, hosting his knowledge on the matter.
- Carter - Carter is a student at the Innsmouth Academy. Not much is known about her except that she recently became friends with Danny and speaks with him over her twitter account. The two discussed Mr. Freeborn's actions during the recent harbor planning meeting.
- Henry Hawthorne - Henry is a reverend for the local Protestant Congregational church. Aside from his weekly services on Sunday at 10:00 AM, Reverend Hawthorne organizes a book club that meets Monday at 7:00 PM. The current book for the club is The Lost Symbol.
- Susie - Although not much is known about Susie, she is the apparent owner of a famous diner that many of the locals eat at. The diner has been featured in multiple screenshots of The Secret World that date back to 2008.

[edit] In Danger
After discovering the town, The Dark Places made one final tweet stating "They will all drown. They will all come back. The endless night is near." It is believed that this is directed towards the citizens of Kingsmouth and likely means that they are in mortal danger, perhaps from a flood. After the flood, the community believes the townsfolk will return as zombies. The chance of this is even greater considering a twitter message from Deputy Gardener that was made the same day saying to Helen, "Jeez yeah, specially with the weather we been having. This ain't exactly the tourist season round here."
In some screenshots shown in the Funcom Q2 report in 2009, a man can be seen fighting zombies in the streets of a town, most likely Kingsmouth, with Susie's diner in the background.
In addition, an old screenshot of a presumed concrete golem can be seen with what is likely the Kingsmouth Lighthouse in the distant background.
[edit] Town Footage
On January 30, 2010, a trailer was released that showed footage from the town of Kingsmouth. The video was shown through black and white surveillance cameras around the town. In the video, the narrator describes a "fog" that has settled in around the town and apparently is responsible for the disappearance of numerous town members. Eventually the missing townspeople came back, however, they are no longer among the living. The narrator also claims that people who have tried to escape through the fog disappear, but he doesn't know to where.
